In a low-scoring affair, it was the Eagles who are flying high thanks to a late defensive stand, giving Philadelphia a 15-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons in the Divisional Round of the NFC playoffs.
Philly will now host the Vikings or Saints in the NFC Championship Game. Elliott added a 21-yard kick with 6 minutes 2 seconds remaining after Coach Doug Pederson briefly considered going for it on fourth-and-1 at the Atlanta 3. They used it as motivation and now it’s onto the next one as they continue pursuit of the franchise’s first Super Bowl title. We were looking for that opportunity, that match-up on that specific play.
A short Jake Elliott field goal gave the Eagles a 15-10 lead with about six minutes remaining.
It’s the first time the Eagles have advanced to the championship game since 2008. “That’s why we put all of the hard work we put in”. “Often times you may get it man-to-man in those scenarios”. However, it’s worth noting that the Eagles have not covered a single game under the Nick Foles era. Most of his 30 pass attempts (he completed 23 for 246 yards) were safe, low-risk throws.
Overall, the Eagles rushed 32 times for 96 yards and one touchdown. “We kept working, kept grinding, had faith in one another”. Because there’s going to be a lot of outside noise in any sport, any situation, where you’re doing something on a big stage. “I can’t give you an answer why we didn’t succeed down there”.
All the Eagles had to do was make sure they were able to run the ball for a first down, setting up a knee down on the ground to run out the clock.
Their second play back in the postseason? In nine National Football League seasons as a coordinator, with the Jets and Rams, the former UF backup quarterbacks units ranked as a top-10 scoring offense once.
The Eagles ended up benefitting off what was nearly a Nick Foles interception late in the second quarter.
“I think that’s something we have to look at and evaluate this offseason”, Ryan said. “Anything more we can use to motivate us, we’ll use”.
Atlanta got run over all of the first half, allowing Jay Ajayi and the rest of the Eagles offense to average over seven yards per carry.
The Patriots appeared to have a touchdown three plays earlier, when Dion Lewis caught a pass from Brady and was tackled by Wesley Woodyard at the 19. “The fumble, can’t do that in a big game”.
“Like all parts of the organization with [general manager] Thomas [Dimitroff] and I, we access and see how we can do things better”, Quinn said of impending evaluations.
Then the Eagles played defense. But the Eagles have home field advantage against the Falcons and the Eagles are 4-0 under backup QB Nick Foles. “I understand Carson is a great player, but every week our guys hear were not good enough”.
The Eagles did put together a nice early touchdown drive, 14 plays for 86 yards, as Blount capped it with a fourth-and-goal run from the 1-yard line. Honestly, it’s unbelievable to win this game. It really doesn’t matter what you guys talk about, because [our] locker room is united.
