Donald Trump is your president, whether you like it or not

Trump campaigned heavily on putting American interests above those of the worldwide community.

Freedom House, an independent watchdog organization “dedicated to the expansion of freedom and democracy around the world”, chides the United States and its president for being unable or unwilling “to lead democracies in effectively confronting the growing threat from Russian Federation and China, and from the other states that have come to emulate their authoritarian approach”.

More men than women line up to support the president.

The accompanying graph displays the average economic, satisfaction and approval ratings during each of the past five presidential terms, as well as in Trump’s first year in office.

“Trump is shocking the world again, reminding us that there is nothing in the USA constitution requiring American presidents to be as conventionally magnanimous, gracious, even-tempered [at least publicly] as we’ve come to expect”, he said. “But what happened immediately is that we felt he was under attack from day one”.

Saturday will mark Trump’s first full year in office. Alternatively, it is 47% based on the 29% of Americans who are satisfied with the way things are going in the U.S. “It is going to be fantastic for the economy”.

On the economy, voters are near evenly split, with 26 percent giving him an F and 25 percent giving him an A.

Pollsters also asked voters to grade the president on his handling of specific issues ranging from national security to the environment.

The falling ratings under Trump were both substantial and widespread.

The survey of opinion in 134 countries showed a record collapse in approval for the United States role in the world, from 48% under Obama to 30% after one year of Donald Trump – the lowest level Gallup has recorded since beginning its global leadership poll over a decade ago. “The median of 24% who approve of USA leadership in the region now stands at about half of what it was in the past year of the Obama administration (49%)”.

Trump’s “America First” policy, in particular, was the greatest concern outside the USA, particularly the possibility that together with his volatile personality it was weakening relationships between western democracies and feeding xenophobic nationalism within Europe. Nonetheless, the approval rating for the region is at its lowest level yet, clinging to a bare majority that may be in jeopardy after the president’s alleged remarks about the continent in January 2018.
