What Facebook’s Changes Mean to Your Small Business Marketing Strategy

January 19 07:07 2018

The shares tumbled the most in more than a year.

Zuckerberg stated the company’s intent to bring personal interaction back to Facebook, ensuring that users see more of their friends’ posts and less content from brands, media and other groups that utilize Facebook pages.

Businesses and publishers reliant on Facebook will face a massive shake-up after the social media giant announced an overhaul of its content distribution methods. From few years, the Facebook team has been working to provide reliable and relevant content to visitors.

“By making these changes, I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down”, Zuckerberg wrote.

Mr. Zuckerberg also said in his post that due to this change he expected people to spend less time on the site, which may have caused the stock price of the site to take a plunge after the announcement.

After the announcement, Facebook’s stock fell 4.5 percent, according to CNBC, but Zuckerburg is not anxious about that in the long run. They were trading down 4.1 percent at 9:45 a.m.in NY.

“It’s in the same direction that Facebook has been pursuing for a while: offering a place for discussion among individuals, a community space, rather than being a news source”, said Oh Se-uk, a senior researcher on digital news at the Korea Press Foundation.

The current changes could prove catastrophic to the companies behind the public content – traffic via the platform is vital for many websites.

Harris, Parakilas and Roger McNamee, a former adviser to Zuckerberg and an early investor in Facebook, spoke with NBC News in exclusive television interviews about how they say Facebook has failed its users – and what, if anything, can be done to rein in its power. You can also choose pages and friends to unfollow or re-follow a friend or page.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg address the changes in a January 11 post.

With Facebook’s change threatening to rob news sites and publishers (including Breitbart News) of potentially millions of views, the change only further underscores Facebook’s extraordinary influence over the media landscape. The persistent attack has forced these publishers and brands to ask an even more important question: why does Facebook hate businesses so much? For maybe the first time in its existence, Facebook has seen the value of moving slowly.

Zuckerberg’s 2018 goal for Facebook may or may not work, but it’s the right idea.

Much of today’s news coverage and political pressure concerns the alleged affects of Facebook on American elections, particularly with regards to the ongoing Russian Federation panic. Months before the company went public in 2012, Facebook started featuring “sponsored story” ads in users’ feeds, and it rolled out mobile advertising that same year.

As you are likely to have heard by now – or are about to hear anyway – Facebook has chose to make a major change to its News Feed which will see content from friends and family prioritised ahead of posts from publishers and brands.

Facebook’s News Feed is broken. “The brand was at risk of becoming toxic”.

The moves to fix Facebook may be too little, too late, however: McNamee, Parakilas and Harris said self-regulation won’t be enough. There will be some hacks you can try and implement to get around this, but businesses will need to become very strategic to have significant organic impact. But this time, their focus has been shifted to providing a platform that augments meaningful interactions with relatives and friends.

So why did Facebook make this change?

Use targeted marketing on the Facebook Ads Manager page. We’ll watch fewer videos, and we’ll see fewer advertisements. “We were frustrated that the returns were diminishing on Facebook“.
