Olympic gymnast Jordyn Wieber appeared in court on Friday during the fourth day of Larry Nassar’s sentencing hearing and revealed that she too was abused by the former USA Gymnastics team doctor.
As you know, Larry Nassar is being sentenced this week after more than 140 women have come forward saying the former USA Gymnastics team doctor molested them under the guise of medical treatment.
USA Gymnastics also came under fire from Raisman, who said the organization had not shown support or sympathy for her and other victims of Nassar.
“Even though I am a victim, I do not and will not live as one”, Wieber said.
“I am not afraid to tell my story anymore”. Imagine feeling like you have no power and no voice. The gymnast had announced on Monday that she would not be delivering testimony at the hearing, but stated that she changed her mind after watching the impact statements from the other survivors.
Raisman went on to slam USA Gymnastics for enabling Nassar, calling it an organization that’s “rotting from the inside”. In a statement from Mckayla, read by a prosecutor, to her alleged abuser, McKayla called him a “monster of a human being” who “deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison”. He also pleaded guilty to seven counts of criminal sexual conduct in November.
“You are so sick, I can’t even comprehend how angry I feel when I think of you”, the 23-year-old, three-time Olympic gold medalist told Nassar, while staring at him off and on in court.
With about 120 victims now expected to make statements at the hearing, more than initially expected, Nassar’s sentencing has been delayed to early next week. Now is the time to acknowledge the very person who sits here before us now, who perpetrated the worst epidemic of sexual abuse in the history of sports, who is going to be locked up for a long, long time.
Nassar already faces 60 years in prison after also pleading guilty to child pornography charges. “Both whom I thought were supposed to be on my side”. The woman said she had known Nassar for decades, and according to her, they were family friends.
As of Friday morning, Raisman was one of 70 women to deliver victim impact statements including teammate Jordyn Wieber, CNN reported. She is holding every party accountable that enabled Nassar to continue his abusive behavior. “They will be exposed for the evil they are, and they will be punished to the maximum extent of the law”, she said.
