Cohen represents more than 4,000 educators in Portland. Conversations about gun control and mental heath, which were had in the building, continued as people left, around 11 p.m.

Carter said the walkout is just the start of many planned demonstrations from CAPA students.

Following the walk-out, about 200 students gathered around the flagpole in front of the school for a moment of silence for the victims in the Parkland shooting. “Are you Kidding me???” shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez wrote in response on Twitter. “I just want to speak”.
