Hope Hicks Resigns From White House Duties As Communications Director

Robert Trout, a lawyer for Hicks who has represented her in the Russian Federation investigation, declined comment.

Hicks’s first association with the Trump family was working with Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, on her personal apparel and licensing brand about six years ago.

It’s no secret the White House has become something of a revolving door for staff. Hicks was the fifth person designated as communications director and the third to hold the job on a non-interim basis. This revelation has many pondering whether or not she had resigned based on the testimony she gave earlier this week. Hicks informed Trump of her decision Wednesday, a White House official said. Trump’s spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said no timeline had been set for her departure, adding that her exit was not linked to her testimony to Congress.

There has been an unprecedented departure of personnel from the White House, ranging from the lowest of the low to Cabinet Secretaries. The announcement came a day after news broke of the impending departure of deputy communications director Josh Raffel, and just a few days after senior adviser Jared Kushner saw his security clearance downgraded – limiting his access to classified information. The White House said she approached the President and told him she wanted to leave so she could start exploring other opportunities. However, his “opinions” about immigrants, Black Lives Matter protests, etc., and constant clashes with colleagues in the administration was starting to rub Trump the wrong way, reports say.

The communication director is in charge of crafting the president’s speeches.

In a statement, Ms Hicks said: “There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to President Trump”.

“What I have done is what everyone has done, is tell ‘white lies, ‘” King said, continuing to quote Hicks to the best of his memory.

Although she was originally attached to Ivanka Trump’s business, the President drafted her into his campaign and eventually into the White House communications team where she wielded great influence and won Trump’s trust and confidence although she was only 28 and a neophyte in a high-wire job.

She reportedly told lawmakers she had told “white lies” for Trump in the course of her duties, but never over the Russian Federation probe.

The resignation also came weeks after the sudden departure of former Staff Secretary Rob Porter, who left the White House after reports that two ex-wives had accused him of domestic violence in background interviews with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. “I think he depends on her so much that she views it like it would be abandoning the cause – not even abandoning the cause, I think it’s abandoning him”.
