Classes resume at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School

At Stoneman Douglas on Wednesday, some of the police officers guarding the almost 3,300-student school carried military-style rifles, and Superintendent Robert Runcie said the police presence would continue for the remainder of the school year. He talked about students being threatened with violence in recent days, and said he hopes law enforcement agencies are investigating those threats to prevent further trauma. Since the shooting, Barry has had trouble sleeping in the dark.

“At this point we’re not going to tell them they can’t”, Hammer said. If they are expected to uphold the laws as any average citizen within and above voting age, they should be allowed to exercise the laws already in place meant to protect them as well, such as the right to peaceful assembly under the First Amendment of the Constitution.

Many students said that to feel safe, they need to see some type of gun control changes, whether in the form of mental health reform, background checks, or anything else.

Terry Armstrong, Lordstown superintendent, said students wanted to do something to honor the lives lost in a respectful and safe manner.

Broward County officials planned the school’s opening in phases, with teachers and staff returning to work Monday and Tuesday, and classes resuming Wednesday. School will be in session from 7:40 a.m.to 11:40 a.m. through Friday.

“I don’t think anyone is physically prepared or mentally prepared to actually walk into the gates and just remember everything that was happening”, sophomore Nicole Velasquez said.

“We’ve all been getting through this together”. Former students, neighbors and their children held banners reading “We Love You”, “You’ve Got This” and “We Are With You”.

Before the February 14 shooting occurred, Houston and Richardson had already planned a trip to visit Houston’s brother, who lives a half hour outside Parkland.

Law-enforcement officers from many nearby towns and jurisdictions came to the campus Wednesday morning to show support, as lines of cars full of teachers and staff members arrived, and then school buses full of students rolled in. “We are strong believers in continuous improvement and will make adjustments as needed”.

Broward County school superintendent Robert Runcie said grief counselors were on hand for the day.

“We miss waking her up, getting her ready for school – trying to get her up out of bed and make sure she gets to school on time”.

To God he pleaded: “I want you to protect us”. “That’s what I think everyone in this neighborhood should do, is be supportive of the children”.

Lina Crisostomo’s SATs are coming up soon, but college test preparation has taken a backseat to funerals, vigils and walkouts.

One student burst into tears in the gallery, stunned and angered by the slap in the face from adults. Dick’s chairman and CEO, Edward W. Stack, made the announcement after the retailer conducted an audit of all gun sales after the Parkland shooting and found that, in November, it sold a shotgun to Nikolas Cruz, the alleged perpetrator of the attack on the high school.

The modified schedule will continue Thursday and Friday, Runcie said. We are willing to assume they would advise us to lock our school doors, install cameras, and get those ID cards for everyone in the school system.

The league is sponsored by Statewide Amateur Hockey of Florida, not the school or the state’s high school athletic association. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who has long pushed for tougher gun regulations, noted that the law called for enhanced penalties – five years of extra prison time and a substantial fine – for carrying a gun near a school in a gun-free zone.
