Sheriff’s officials said any student who hears or sees a threat of violence or even possible violence can speak with school resource deputies or call the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (888) 580-8477. During the course of the investigation, officials learned that a middle school student had made verbal threats of violence toward others during the course of the school day. The student was arrested and taken to the Del City Police Department where they disclosed that two other students were involved.

“The threats made yesterday were extremely serious in nature and all of our staff took the appropriate steps immediately following the statements”, Baldwin said.

As students across the nation prepare to walk out of schools March 14, some parents are questioning how best to support their children.

Atwell added that teachers will not be taking part, but the school will be allowing the protests because they should not be a major disruption to the school day.

Commenters to the social media message wondered why the school waited as long as it did to inform parents.

Central Florida schools have become the center of numerous threats and hoaxes since the Parkland shooting. The student admitted to posting the threat.

The school was locked down for around 25 minutes at midday after administrators received a report of a student with a firearm on campus.

Classmates tell me the suspect is a freshman boy, and parents tell me they are angry they were notified about the investigation days after it started. Sheriff deputies contacted the student offcampus.

The photo circulated on social media Thursday evening and Friday morning.

“Schools do have the power to regulate students during school hours and on school property”, said Vera Eidelman, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, during a presentation on Thursday related to student rights. “We also ask that people verify information before linking the information to our schools”. They just want to feel safe going to school, Baum said.
