Critics Are Divided On The New Tomb Raider Movie

It all rests on Vikander’s shoulders, and the Swedish-born star proves she has what it takes and then some.

The rebooted film franchise of the popular video game series picks up almost 15 years since the last time Lara Croft (previously played by Angelina Jolie) graced the big screen.

“Tomb Raider” is instead full of characters like the island boss played by Walton Goggins, who guns down slave-workers digging through island pits when he’s not staring at something, apparently off-camera, for some reason. That’s impacted my whole love for movies and how I want to tell stories.

Wall Street Journal: The greatest distinction of “Tomb Raider” may be its trombones. She’s still from the incredibly rich Croft family, but with her mother dead and father missing, Lara’s on her own.

Vogel takes Lara prisoner, reveals that he killed her father and intends to use Richard’s research she brought with her to finally find the tomb. I mean really how counterintuitive can you get. When she discovers the key to his hidden workroom, she becomes hooked on his quest and decides to follow his trail all the way to the jungle tomb he was desperately trying to keep from ever being opened.

There have plenty of rumors suggesting that Square Enix was prepping a new Tomb Raider title for release this year, and now the company has confirmed them.

This weekend, Alicia Vikander stars in the reboot of “Tomb Raider“, an action-adventure flick that is actually far more enjoyable than expected, but one that recycles elements from Steven Spielberg’s superior gem “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” (1989) at every possible turn.

Ultimately, “Tomb Raider” offers some decent scenery – the film was shot largely in and around Cape Town, South Africa – but not much more.
