Jose Mourinho happy with Man Utd players after Champions League exit

Manchester United’s Scott McTominay before their Champions League Round of 16 Second Leg match against Sevilla at the Old Trafford, Manchester, March 13, 2018.

Jose Mourinho got his tactics wrong while the players showed a complete lack of urgency.

But, armed with a collection of notes that he referred to, Mourinho delivered an emotional 12-minute diatribe fighting back against his critics in his latest media conference, pointing to United’s recent history and that of Manchester City to explain his team’s recent struggles. I thought they would have brought confidence into this game.

Liverpool are still desperate to keep Can and hope an encouraging end to the season, especially in the Champions League, could convince him to stay.

“We saw with the goal, his reaction to it was like a schoolboy”.

The manager’s extended rant surprised journalists, who sat in silence as Mourinho outlined his speech. Torres appears to have well-placed sources at clubs throughout Europe though and is the author of The Special One: The Dark Side of José Mourinho, which covered Mourinho’s time at Real Madrid.

There have been concerns over United’s cautious style against Sevilla while he has also been blasted for not getting more out his squad despite spending £300million. There were those reacting with their hearts, who have become fed up with seeing their beloved team perform in a way that is so foreign to them.

Mourinho also visited the away dressing room to congratulate a buoyant Sevilla squad, wishing them luck for the rest of the competition. These fans let their feelings known and booed him.

United’s exit at the hands of the La Liga side has led to intense criticism of Mourinho who is in his second season at the club.

The United fan base is largely fiercely loyal, rightly or wrongly.

With Manchester City close to wrapping up the Premier League title already, the FA Cup is the only silverware left for Chelsea, United and Tottenham to challenge for.

– Should they fail to prise Jones from Manchester United, Everton will move for Basel centre-back Leo Lacroix, according to The Sun.

Mourinho’s argument will be that he has taken them from sixth last season to likely runners-up this year, and he’ll point to the trophies”. But it’s still not bright enough. Next-to-last Stoke is at home against Everton, which is likely one more win from securing its top-flight status for another season.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton is confident his side can cause a huge upset by beating Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.

And to be honest, they have every right to feel that way. Then he answered four questions before being asked about the fans’ response to Tuesday’s Champions League exit.

And if Mourinho is fearless enough to deploy the same negative tactics on Saturday, he better pray that it pays off.
