FBI’s Cohen raids hit home for President Trump

In the aftermath of Monday’s Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on President Trump’s personal lawyer and confidante Michael Cohen, the White House appears to be increasingly isolated.

If Cohen acted on his own to pay Daniels, Super said, “then there’s no attorney-client privilege, which may have made (the FBI) more comfortable doing this raid”. The Justice Department pitched it to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of NY, which obtained permission for the raids from a federal judge – one appointed by Trump himself.

She claims her and Trump had an affair in 2006 and the money was to keep her quiet.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has said repeatedly that Trump denies Clifford’s allegations.

Daniel’s lawyer, Michael Avenatti, tweeted about her cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday, while also making a dig at Cohen referencing the raid.

But a source said it was Cohen’s “standard practice” to play recordings for the president that he’d made of other top advisers. And privately, Trump said he didn’t want to be away from the White House amid developments in the China trade dispute and in the Mueller investigation.

John Malcolm is now Vice President of the Institute for Constitutional Government at the Heritage Foundation and formerly served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, an Associate Independent Counsel, and Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Trump reacted to the raid of Michael Cohen by calling it a “witch hunt” and “an attack to our country”. Asked about Trump’s threats to fire Mueller, Ryan said he had been reassured by the White House that there were no such plans. “Mr. Cohen knows as much about Mr. Trump’s personal and financial affairs as anyone, and prosecutors could use an indictment to coerce his cooperation against the president”.

“I would be lying to you if I told that I am not [worried]”, Cohen added to CNN.

The legal battle has spurred Cohen and Trump to make public statements that are “quite incriminating,”said David Super, a Georgetown University law professor”.

An attorney for the president, Joanna Hendon, told the judge that Trump has “an acute interest in this matter”.

Investigators were seeking documents related to possible bank fraud, as well as potential campaign finance violations, according to The Washington Post.

On Thursday, Cohen and Trump’s lawyers told a federal judge they intend to request a stay in separate civil litigation regarding the Daniels case because they said the criminal investigation “implicates” Cohen’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination.

Jim Trusty, who formerly headed the Justice department’s organized crime unit, said that up until recently, Cohen was described as co-operative with the Mueller probe. The second woman, former Playboy Playmate of the Year Karen McDougal, says she was paid $150,000 by the parent company of the National Enquirer.

What do you think of the raids against Michael Cohen? Trump called Cohen “a good man” and went on to criticize Attorney General Jeff Sessions, saying he had made “a very awful mistake for the country” by recusing himself from the Russian Federation probe.

In the filing with a court in NY, prosecutors blacked out a section describing what crime they believe Trump attorney Michael Cohen has committed.
