Microsoft releases Windows Defender Browser Protection extension for Chrome

The latest update comes with many security fixes and is hence important for users to install the latest version. In Chrome 66 auto-playing of the content is switched off by default. However, Microsoft claims that in comparison to the dedicated features in both the Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, the windows Defender extension is more accurate.

“However, one of the most frequent user concerns is unexpected media playback, which can use data, consume power, and make unwanted noise while browsing”. The feature has been in development for Chrome since a year ago, but there are some exceptions.

That’s because Google Chrome will finally mute annoying autoplaying videos by default. Overnight it seems that Google has added Family Link support for Chrome OS devices, to allow parents to protect their kids on their Chromebooks as well. Having the right features and performance while browsing the web can literally change your entire experience.

The extension can be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store now.

It looks like Google’s desktop OS is about to get a lot more useful. The option for Android and iOS can be found by tapping the overflow icon in the Passwords menu.

It should be mentioned that Chrome 66 will not trust website certificates which were issued before 1st June 2016 by PKI. The search engine has added a new feature on its Chrome 66 which it launched yesterday.

Obviously, with a name like “vboot-windows”, it is easy to jump to the conclusion that the feature is intended for Microsoft Windows, though little information about this is available.

Site Isolation is an additional layer of security that aims to prevent that.

Also, Google will now give out warnings if any third-party software is pushing a code into Chrome’s process.

Most of the relevant AltOS code on Chrome is only visible to Google employees, making it hard to ascertain what this is for. Instead of fixing the bug the company has issued a new build with a cumulative update via Windows Update.
