Embiid had expressed frustration on social media after sitting out of the Sixers’ Game 2 loss on Monday.
In the first two games against Boston, Jabari Parker is 1-of-7 shooting, has grabbed 15 percent of the available rebounds while on the court (low for a big expected to board), has more turnovers than assists, has been exploited on defense by Boston, and is -29. He noted that the mask was hard to get used to, and even tried to throw it away at one point during the game, but it didn’t impact his ability to dominant Game 3. Winslow had 19 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks.
Marco Belinelli assisted with 20 points off the bench.
“It’s clear that the first game and the third game were played on their terms”, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.
“They [the Sixers] did everything possible”, Embiid said. He had backups, but didn’t return in the first half.
We’ve got a good one brewing in Miami tonight.
Goran Dragic led the Heat with 23 points while Justise Winslow added 19.
The Heat remained with an opening five of Whiteside at centre, James Johnson and Josh Richardson at forward, Dragic and Tyler Johnson at guard. During one mid-second-quarter play, Heat big man Kelly Olynyk knocked Embiid’s mask off while reaching for a loose ball. So the Sixers are confident that there’s no way he can go out there and re-injure the eye. “They were like throwing stuff at it to make sure it could withstand it”.
The Sixers lost Game 2 at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday.
The Pelicans went up by 16 after the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to a win and a commanding 3-0 lead in this best-of-seven series. Philadelphia came out on top, 128-108.
The 76ers again pushed to a double-digit lead, with a pair of Richardson 3-pointers keeping the Heat within striking distance before an Embiid 3-pointer put the 76ers up 117-105 with 4:39 to play. He had 12 points and 5 assists in the first half.
Missing the rest of the regular season in the process, Embiid hoped to feature soon after undergoing surgery and clearing the concussion protocol but was rested for Game 2 when a vintage Dwyane Wade performance pegged the series back to 1-1 earlier this week. If the Sixers can win, they’ll be able to close out the series at home Tuesday of next week.
