Facebook to introduce new privacy control tool

According to CNBC, online dating company Match saw its shares fall by 22 percent, and shares of its parent company slip by 18 percent.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook launched the social network as a website which had a high resemblance to a dating site: Users can rate pictures of the other sex, and well, potentially find their date. It will let users opt in to create dating profile that will only be visible to non-friends who also opted for the same. So, for instance you are at a social event, you will be easily able to “connect” with others.

And Zuckerberg clearly thinks he can offer a service for all the singletons using the platform.

As part of efforts to restore confidence, he said the firm was building a new “Clear History” tool to provide members with more control over how their information was used.

The dating service would only suggest potential matches that users were not already friends with, and none of a user’s existing friends would be able to see any of their dating activity.

So it’s not much of a surprise to see Facebook’s newfound rivals-more established dating services-seize upon this fact.

Facebook’s handling of user data had undergone a lot of scrutinity and Mark Zuckerberg has promised to take necessary steps to win back trust from its users. So you can continue having a conversation with your family members using the standard profile and chat separately with someone interesting using the dating profile.

Facebook’s move to introduce dating app in its coterie of services will be in direct competition to popular dating apps like Tinder and OkCupid.

Facebook said it will take a few months to build the update, adding the company will work with privacy advocates, academics, policymakers and regulators to get their input on the new approach. What makes it a platable feature is that your dating activities will not be shown to your friends on the network.

Zuckerberg explained that dating features would be integrated into the Facebook application. However, we would receive more information about the app when the launch of the feature come closer.
