If you can manage that, you’re in for a handsome tale that highlights the power of our own minds and the unbreakable bonds of love. So there’s that milestone. Who (Mindy Kaling), Meg starts to realize that her father may still be alive.
A Wrinkle In Time is a broad metaphor about life that makes connections in nearly as many ways as there are likely to be lives lived. One of the best and most eerie sequences is a brief detour into a cul-de-sac with children bouncing balls.
Please give Calvin the respect he deserves.
Fans of the source material might quibble with the film’s reliance on special effects – vibrant and seamless as they might be – while watering down some of the book’s dramatic texture (and its faith-based overtones). She sat down with me and went through all the things she loved and the things she was interested in doing with it, and I could see it.
Meg is the kind of literary heroine that book-loving girls worship.
The biggest thing about “A Wrinkle in Time” was that I was a kid that always did everything wrong…was very disheveled…very severely bullied… and I was very alone because of that and what I loved about Meg was she wasn’t someone who had to change who she was fundamentally to be so extraordinary. But I don’t know where my career is going to be in the next five to ten years, I just hope it’s in a good place and I can keep representing young African American women with stories that have depth and that are the light for the audience.
Before working on “A Wrinkle in Time, “DuVernay offered J.J. Abrams some help when “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was in post-production”. His family is poor, his mother is a drunk, and he is smart in a way that no one around him understands.
As the film crawls toward the weak climax, Meg finally becomes a lot more likeable. During her short speech at the screening, DuVernay also made mention of a similar project, The Neverending Story, and I remembered being equally confused and charmed by that particular flick as a child and as an adult. “Sure, I can function on the same level as everybody else”. I had to ask myself, do I still have a heart? A brilliant scientist, he claimed he’d found a way to explore the universe using only his mind. This is, of course, is an update to the book written in the ’60s that has many viewers excited who are getting to see themselves reflected in Meg. @ava beautifully normalized what so many families look like.
“This whole thing doesn’t work if you don’t have a great Meg”. On more than one occasion, each one steps in to save the other. I can’t even imagine what it was like for girls of color back then; I might never have been a Sweet Valley-sized 6, but at least my skin tone matched theirs.
“Traveling via a wrinkling of time and space known as tessering, they are soon transported to worlds beyond their imagination where they must confront a powerful evil”.
That may be a weird way to sell this old adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, but I can’t see two X-Men actors in a movie and not point it out.
