After 75 years, Wonder Woman gets her big screen due

Gadot was cast in part for her off-screen persona: “A lot of times, kids don’t distinguish between an actor and the character”. Sometimes called Paradise Island, it’s also the birthplace of one Princess Diana of Themyscira (Gal Gadot), daughter of Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen). She co-raised Diana alongside Antiope (House of Cards Golden Globe-winning actress Wright) and her lieutenant Melanippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli, from Turist).

Wonder Woman will have her big screen debut on March 25 in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

After we’ve met her mysterious alter ego, Diana Prince, our first glimpse of the superheroine all suited up is when she swoops in just as Doomsday is about to make smithereens of Batman.

Wonder Woman, due in theaters June 2017, will tell the story of Diana’s evolution from Amazonian princess born from clay to badass superhero. She’s not the love interest or the sexual object or the sidekick.

“Themyscira is influenced by the Greek but it’s clearly more then that“.

“I, as a woman, want Wonder Woman to be hot as hell, fight badass, and look great at the same time – the same way men want Superman to have huge pecs and an impractically big body”, Patty Jenkins, the film’s director, told the outlet. It’s a place that has the “you’ve never been to” kind of feel.

Joining director Patty Jenkins (Monster) behind the camera are director of photography Matthew Jensen (Chronicle, Fantastic Four, HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), Oscar-nominated production designer Aline Bonetto (Amélie, A Very Long Engagement, Pan), Oscar-winning editor Martin Walsh (Chicago, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, V for Vendetta), and Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (The Dark Knight trilogy, Topsy-Turvy).

Even as a Marvel comics fan, I am super-excited and looking forward to seeing her in the new “Batman v Superman” movie. Those were all wonderful feats that showcased merely a fraction of what the audiences could expect to see more of in her own standalone film next year. “So we had to make sure that whoever we were casting would really represent who this character was and be a great role model personally”, says Snyder. When the two legendary heroes made their first entrances or when they got in a particularly good punch, the crowd applauded and cheered. It’s is the first live-action film to feature both Batman and Superman, as well as the first theatrical film to feature live-action portrayals of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash.
