AI takes centre stage in Google’s Pixel smartphone and Home speaker

The creators of Android used to claim the Nexus range of untouched Android headsets as their own, getting new manufacturers to produce new handsets every so often. Google is calling it the Pixel as the company has launched premium hardware products such as Chromebooks and tablets under the Pixel banner in the past and Google aims to set the benchmark for premium smartphones with the Pixel phones. That being said, Google has added some customizations to the OS such as the Pixel launcher, glowing on-screen navigation bar to differentiate it with other OEM’s OS. Just because Verizon is a launch partner doesn’t mean people should buy one from big red. Both phones, the 5-in. and the 5.5-in screens are built on the recent advances in artificial intelligence, and are geared toward improving voice-capable searches.

The Pixel has a 5-inch FHD AMOLED display, and the Pixel XL has a slightly larger 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, but other than that they’re mostly the same.

Talking about the battery, the Google Pixel is powered using a 2,770mAh, whereas the Google Pixel XL is powered by a 3,450mAh battery. It has the latest processor, the Snapdragon 821 from industry leader Qualcomm. For Pixel, it’s the 12.3 megapixel rear camera dubbed the “best smartphone camera ever” with a score of 89 from DxOMark, three points higher than iPhone 7’s rating of 86. The Pixel phones come with 4GB of RAM while the iPhone 7 Plus has 3GB and the iPhone 7 only has 2GB. Additionally, the Pixel Launcher, with its filled-in navigation buttons, and even Google’s highly promoted Assistant feature, also may not come to Nexus devices.

The Verge reported that the only downside regarding the Google Pixel phones is that it is not water-resistant.

Google will give anyone who purchases the device unlimited space for pictures and videos.
