Airtel teams up with Lava & Micromax to launch Android Go smartphones

In the intervening year, Google appears to have loosened the constraints on Android One.

“The introduction of the Alcatel 1X powered by Android Oreo (Go edition) sets a new benchmark for smartphone affordability and connectivity for customers across the globe”, he added. We’re excited to see itel Mobile take the next step towards bringing computing to more people by launching Android Oreo (Go edition) phones.

It wasn’t always like this. Android One was a venture to build excellent phones while keeping the price down. Android Go is a version of Android optimized for low-end devices with limited processing power. The company revealed two new Android flagships, the Galaxy S9 and the S9 Plus, during an Unpacked event Sunday, the day before MWC’s official kickoff. It just makes sense to highlight the apps that will perform well on the device. Google expanded the scope of Android One in 2015 with the Infinix Hot 2 X510, which first launched in Nigeria and later arrived in Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, and Uganda.

The phone will be offered in two colour variants – Black and Gold. We’re still waiting for word on United Kingdom pricing. The trouble is that the cheap smartphones still need to run Android and as you might know, Android is a resource hog.

Google announced last spring that it wouldn’t let Android phones perish, so they chose to give another go to this operating system, and the first Android Go phone was announced by Alcatel with the X1 model. It’s the 3 time (and the first since it was sold to new owner HMD Global) that Nokia has staked its future on the software chops of a 3 party company. However, their biggest venture would be their hardware one, and there is not much real estate left for a newcomer. It comes with promise of staying updated with latest Android and includes a 2,000mAh battery. If you are not able to patiently wait for the beta update to get stable, then you can just sign in to the site and register yourself online, and the update will be arriving onto your device within 12 hours following the registration.

It’s also about the hardware itself.

Android Go is Google’s attempt to keep catering to the low-end smartphone market.

The Lava Z50 comes with Android oreo Go out of the box, with all other Go-edition applications. The first one to be announced for this market is the super-budget ZTE Tempo Go, but models will probably be offered at a later date.

That’s where Android Go comes in.

Also, there are other phones available at this price with better specifications. Google used this moment to tout the growing strength and widening breadth of its brand. If the phone does make it stateside, it will most likely only support AT&T and T-Mobile networks (like it’s the case with the Nokia 6).
