Steinem, for her part, has made no condescending remarks about women who supported Donald Trump over Fiorina, and my family never dared to suggest I might support either Fiorina or Palin.
Albright’s comment was seen, however, as a condemnation of women who do not support Clinton’s run for the Democratic nomination.
“I absolutely believe what I said, that women should help one another, but this was the wrong context and the wrong time to use that line”, Albright writes.
Years ago, I remember the endless internal discussions about whether groups such as the Women’s Campaign Fund should support women candidates who were taking on men who shared our liberal views. Yet, she says, she also understands how her words could have been read to be condemning toward women who disagree with her politics.
In an op-ed Friday in The New York Times, Albright said it was the “wrong context” and “wrong time” for the line, noting, “I have spent much of my career as a diplomat”.
Now, coupled with Gloria Steinem’s comment about how some young women are flocking to Bernie Sanders because that’s where the boys are, a lot of people didn’t like the suggestion that women should be supporting Clinton and not Sanders.
Several people at the rally told FOX 5 News they were still undecided; however, many said the appearance by the former president convinced them to vote for Hillary Clinton in the upcoming primary. I didn’t support Sarah Palin, even though I took issue with the sexist attacks on her by some of my liberal “friends”. Clinton, who is keen to strike a new path as the presidential campaign moves south and west, quickly went on the offensive, hammering the senator from Vermont on health care and his plan to make university education free for all. Clinton knows this, and she is blatantly shaming women to get their votes.
“In a society where women often feel pressured to tear one another down, our saving grace lies in our willingness to lift one another up”, she wrote.
So if you’re anti-choice and against immigration reform and gun control and gay marriage and you name it, why should the fact that you share anatomy with Hillary Clinton be more important than what she believes and what you believe?
