The sketch is still amusing and not everything has to be a deliberate swing directly at Trump, but it’s weird to see the writers intentionally and awkwardly side-stepping the inherent politics of the joke.
We think it is fair to say the loathing is mutual between the two men, but Baldwin may be on the winning end with El Nacional’s mistake. Trump finished, quoting from the “Cops” theme song.
Jones as Trump makes ideal sense specifically because she’s black. Is it that amusing to say “she’s crazy” and “she’s obsessed with fame” over and over?
Even though Rosie O’Donnell wasn’t brought in as Steve Bannon, as many hoped she would, Melissa McCarthy returned as White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, and Kate McKinnon added another political impression to her growing roster as well. Not because the sketch blasted Spicer so handily, but, according to Politico, Trump was mostly mad because Spicer was lampooned by a woman.
I guess you can scratch the Dominican Republic off the list of countries that stand a chance of coming in after “America First”. While this was a rather quick return for the character, we certainly didn’t mind it just because she brings SO much to the table in this role.
The president hasn’t been the only Trump administration target so far this season.
Trump, who hosted the show in late 2015, has repeatedly criticized “SNL” for Baldwin’s portrayal of him. Just remember for a moment here that one week of insane Trump headlines is more headlines than you get for an entire year of a different Commander-in-Chief. Saturday Night Live is rolling right now and they have Donald Trump to thank for it.
That or Trump could start considering it as a publication that circulates fake news.
Asked to state his case, Trump gets into the particulars. A shirtless Putin – called the President’s “long-time crush” – entered the court and told everyone to “lay off President Trump“.
Would “SNL” even dare give the show over to Baldwin for a full 90 minutes of just Trump sketches?
