All Hands on Deck: Kohl’s Will Stay Open for 170 Straight Hours

December 18 18:56 2015

Kohl’s says the move is aimed at adding convenience for time-starved shoppers. But the retailer seems to be making the calculation that the trade-off is worthwhile if it brings more sales. Here are some options for consumers who want to go browsing in stores for gifts way past the midnight hour, and at the very last minute just before Christmas.

But the marathon hours also likely reflect the intensity of the fight for shoppers’ dollars this holiday season, especially for a chain that saw only a modest sales increase in the previous quarter as unseasonably warm weather weighed on sales across the industry for items such as coats and boots.

It is called Super Saturday because the last Saturday before Christmas is huge for stores like Kohl’s, Target, and Walmart, because online purchase this late may or may not be delivered in time for Christmas.

Afterwards, from Wednesday at 6.a.m., toy shops will be open for business uninterruptedly, until 9 p.m. on Thursday, December 24.

That meant they did not have to staff the stores during hours where foot traffic would certainly be much lighter. “We also offer the best in-stock position on the hottest toys, hard-to-beat deals every day and expert assistance from toy-trained employees to help parents and gift-givers put smiles on children’s faces when they open their presents on Christmas morning”.

Holiday shoppers are expected to hit the stores Saturday for what is projected to be the second biggest shopping day of the year.
