That is, while many are aware that Amazon makes voice-activated Echo appliances, fewer are probably aware that the firm has brought those capabilities to smartphones via an Alexa app. It’s also got video and voice calling built in, but from the looks of things you need to use the Alexa app rather than the service you’re used to.
That said, the screen lets you see information you can’t with the Echo or Echo Dot devices.
This morning, Amazon introduced its next-generation Amazon Echo device, the Echo Show. The Echo Show is going to be available from June 28th and the price is set at $230, with pre-ordering starting today.
Building on the existing library of home voice commands offered in previous Echo products, now you can ask Alexa to play music and the Show will display music lyrics on the screen.
Sitting inside the Echo Show are two speakers, powered by Dolby, promising to give you better room-filling sound.
Amazon had its Echo speaker available earlier with the Alexa integration. Google Home is second, and many other tech giants are getting interested in offering a similar device.
The Echo Show can be hooked up to Wi-Fi enabled cameras so that it can show the feeds when asked by the user. But the Echo Show is just listed as having “dual 2-inch stereo speakers”, which is a little more vague. Amazon’s new speaker-cum-assistant device comes with a touch screen input which adds to the charm of Alexa. You can head over to Amazon’s product listing to learn more about the device and reserve one for yourself.
The Echo Show will launch in the USA in June and will enable users to make video calls as well as view photos and video using voice commands.
Pre-orders of the new Amazon Echo Show are set to ship June 28th to U.S. residents.
