One of the few functions that human personnel performs inside the store is preparing meals for consumption inside the store.
Cameras that monitor everything from above and weight sensors placed on the shelves determine precisely what people pick up. Then a mix of cameras, sensors and artifical intelligence keeps track of what they take off the shelves. It’s all done via a combination of hardware and software meant to prevent lines from forming, and ensure a customer experience that no other retail store can offer.
“Amazon, famous for dynamic pricing online, has printed price tags just as traditional brick-and-mortar stores do”, Reuters added – probably because in-store dynamic or personalised pricing could run into a legal grey area. When they leave, their shopping is automatically billed to their account. If you change your mind and put the item back it will be removed.

Presumably, if successful, and I see no reason why it wouldn’t be assuming the technology works, we will likely see many more of these stores to come in the future. Today, the company announced the first Amazon Go convenience store will open on January 22 in Seattle. The e-commerce giant had expected the store to be open to the public much sooner.
