AMD RX 470 and RX 460 specification slides leaked

The reference design shows that this model will feature the same blower type cooler now provided on AMD’s Radeon RX 480 reference design, although partners will likely use their own custom solutions. During the presentation (part 1, and part 2, via VideoCardz) details about the Radeon RX series of graphics cards were fleshed out a bit more than in previous communications.

In a slide presented during a special press event in Australia, AMD showed more details about its Radeon RX 470. It packs 2048 Stream Processors, 128 TMUs and 32 ROPs and comes with 4GB of GDDR5 memory with a 256-bit memory interface.

With the GTX 1060 releasing on July 13, AMD could position the Radeon RX 470 and the Radeon RX 460 closer to an August release date. It will be priced around $150. The company is still of course pretty much preoccupied with the release of its three new Polaris 10-based cards, namely the RX 460, RX 470 and the RX 480, which are taking the mid-range graphics card market by storm. The reference design doesn’t have any power connector and looks very short.

AMD’s 14nm Polaris 11 GPU in the RX 460 has 14 CUs, 896 Stream Processors.

It also offers ‘asynchronous compute, ‘ which is like hyperthreading for GPUs, letting GPUs perform more than one task at a time, making for a much more capable graphics card that doesn’t drop frames in VR games while delivering better performance anywhere this hyperthreading capability is taken advantage of. The reference design is equipped with 2GB of GDDR5 RAM, connected via a 128-bit bus.

AMD is targeting three performance levels with Polaris. Despite all odds, the GPU keeps popping up in the rumor mill, and the latest evidence strengthens the belief and gives us hope for that high-end Polaris entry. What is “next-gen memory” when HBM2 is already incredible with 1TB/sec+ bandwidth? It really revealed nothing new save for describing 2017’s Vega GPU architecture as “a high-end architecture for high-end gamers“.
