The deposition through video conference began at 7 AM, in which Headley claimed to be a “true follower of LeT” and said that along with the seven times before the attacks, he has also visited India afterwards, once. This was sometime in November or December 2007, when Headley was tasked with doing surveillance at the Taj, and specifically at the convention hall (conference hall) on the second floor as they had information that a conference of defence scientists was going to be held there soon.
The 55 year old Headley admitted that his handler Sajid Mir, instructed him to travel to the United States of America in 2006 and change his name from Dawood Gilani to David Headley, to enter India and set up a business.
Nikam said after more than five hours of questioning Headley that ” it is clear that there is a close nexus” between Pakistani intelligence and the Lashkar group.
– ISI operative Major Iqbal told Headley to infiltrate Indian Army. He asked me to gather military intelligence from India and also try to recruit someone from the Indian military to spy.
“Lakhvi told me that they would use me for some other goal”, he said, adding it was to be more “adventurous” than Kashmir.
Pakistan’s government has technically banned LeT but a number of its leaders, including Hafiz Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, remain free.
“The LeT group as a whole was responsible for the terror attacks in India”, said the Pak-American terrorist.
Headley had met Dr Rana, a doctor in the Pakistani Army, at a military school in Punjab province.
Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who took the examination of the Pakistani-American terrorist, said, “David Headley has given certain sensitive revelations”.
“His deposition is significant, but I don’t think he will be able to tell anything new. I told Major Iqbal that I would do as he asked”, Headley said. He made the admission in front of a TADA court in Mumbai from the U.S. through video conferencing.
When Headley was asked which year Lashkar had made a decision to attack Mumbai, he revealed, “In 2007, during a meet, which took place in Muzaffarabad”.
He told the court that he travelled to India seven times to scout for potential targets for the attacks.
Nikam said Headley used his USA passport to travel frequently to India without raising suspicion and was able to give Lashkar-e-Taiba information that was used to plan and carry out the attack.
David Coleman Headley on Monday video-deposed before a court where he reiterated that Pakistan’s ISI was behind the 26/11 terror attack. He said that he joined that mission after listing hafiz Saeed he got big influence of his lecture and than he also wanted to join Lashkar-e-taiba.
