Yet in fact, post-election polling and exit polls confirm that Trump flipped decisive states because he connected with voters’ fury about job-killing trade deals. Twelve exceptions came mostly when the sitting president was unpopular, such as 2008, when President-elect Obama was named over sitting President George W. Bush.
Earlier in a report, a spokesman for President Vladimir Putin had said the Kremlin’s reaction would cause the USA “significant discomfort”.
Humorously enough, change was one of the dominant factors for Trump’s victory in the election. Trump’s lead over Romney was greatest in Florida (4.6 million votes vs. 4.2 million), NY (2.8 million vs. 2.5 million), and Pennsylvania (3 million vs. 2.7 million). But despite assertions from Trump Tower that it was a “landslide victory” for the billionaire, Hillary Clinton beat Trump by almost 2.9 million votes-a fact that has seemed to weigh heavily on the president-elect. “So he’ll keep talking about the campaign and keep appealing to voters”, Noel added. Something tells me Chelsea Clinton may be providing cartoonists more fodder in a future campaign, carrying on the Clinton family business.
The flip side is that Clinton matched Obama’s performance in 17 states (shaded in light and dark blue above), but she fell behind in six midwest states: Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Ohio.
The challenge for pollsters now is determining why their surveys underestimated the Trump vote in the swing states.
Both Hillary and Bill Clinton have blamed her loss on James Comey’s letter to Congress, in the closing weeks of the campaign, updating them on the FBI investigation into Clinton’s email management.
A study conducted by Edison Research points out how significant the “Neither” category was for the election.
More than a month after Mr. Trumps presidential win in the general election, the Electoral College has elected him to be the next president of the United States.
Hillary Clinton was one of the least popular candidates to ever run for president. In local and state elections, more votes would mean a win.
Similarly, about half of Trump’s supporters still believe that President Barack Obama might have been born in Kenya even though Trump finally admitted that he knows Obama was born in America. They came from people who were exhausted of having to play the elite and cabals game for so long and watching as it negatively began to affect their own country and life. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 2.85 million votes. “But, among the two-thirds of people who said things were “seriously off on the wrong track”, Trump took 69 percent”. The Midwest, many times referred to as our country’s “fly over zone”, would fulfill that description completely if the presidential election is reduced to a popular vote.
Like most pundits, I put too much faith in the polls.
2016 was in many ways a hard year dominated by an especially bitter election. Their big fear is that anti-establishment voters are refusing to respond to surveys more often than other people, a phenomenon known as “differential non-response”.
Yet in the short term, all seven will get to enjoy status as targets for Republicans who want to reverse 2016’s shrinkage in the House majority. Honestly, racism, sexism, and bigotry in all its forms make for great stories (ones that get lots of attention).
