Amir Khan believes he has winning formula to beat Canelo Alvarez

Alvarez, whose only defeat in a 48-fight career came at the hands of Floyd Mayweather, will certainly have all the pressure on his shoulders. Alvarez’s frame means there is little to stop him gaining a further 20 pounds after weighing in to effectively compete at light heavyweight and therefore leaving Khan, the underdog who turned professional as a lightweight, at an even greater disadvantage.

Khan, 29, is moving up from his last fight at welterweight to take on the Mexican sensation at a contracted 11st 1lb – 5lb below the middleweight limit.

England’s Khan has his detractors because he has had his best success in the 140-pound junior welterweight division, where he unified two world titles and beat the likes of Marcos Maidana, Paulie Malignaggi and Zab Judah, but is going to fight Alvarez at a catch weight of 155 pounds. I’ve seen his fights and guys who move well give him big problems.

“But at the same time he’s aggressive and likes to fight”. Because I am a mover and I have good reflexes and good movement I think it is one of the best fights for me.

Stopping by at the Hayemaker gym ahead of his compatriot’s return to action in May, Khan revealed he took the fight because he really believes he can win, and explained his thought process for taking on the man from Guadalajara.
