According to Portland police, many in the crowd were trying to stop those responsible from vandalizing property and spray-painting messages such as “F– Trump”. “These are things Trump doesn’t stand for”, Feito said.

No arrests or violence were reported. Another 150 people were arrested about an hour later near Cesar Chavez and Grand Avenue.

The officer and an alleged assailant were both taken to hospitals.

Most of the adults were charged with blocking the roadway and failure to disperse, while minors were charged with curfew violations. They then started marching through the streets of downtown as one group merged with another and the crowd grew to several hundred as they continued walking.

In Boston, thousands of anti-Trump protesters streamed through downtown, chanting “Trump’s a racist” and carrying signs that said “Impeach Trump” and “Abolish Electoral College”. The group behind Thursday night’s event are not part of Wednesday night’s protests in the city.

Around the country from NY to Chicago to California, in red states as well as blue, hundreds of demonstrators marched through streets, many for the third straight night though in somewhat smaller numbers.

Around 7 p.m. the California Highway Patrol used social media to warn members of the public to expect a heavy police presence near highway on and off-ramps in Oakland as officers monitor the protest.

The march was among several that took place in large cities across the nation, including NY.

President-elect Trump tweeted twice about the protests – first, on Thursday night, accusing the protesters of being paid off and blaming the rallies on the media. Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting.

Last Saturday, Trump was rushed off a stage on in Reno, Nevada, where Secret Service agents took action after an “unidentified individual shouted “gun” in front of the stage.

Also, Thursday night, protesters blocked Interstate 94 in Minneapolis after demonstrators marched from an anti-Donald Trump rally at the University of Minnesota.

Trump himself fired back late Thursday, tweeting: “Just had a very open and successful presidential election”.

More unity walks were planned for the weekend.

Protesters in San Francisco chanted and held aloft signs demanding a re-vote.

When asked why he was protesting, 20-year-old Alex Hariri said, “Trump does not support anyone in the community I know. We will all come together and be proud!”, the tweet read.
