Apple banking high on Augmented Reality, might debut in the next iPhone

March 21 09:49 2017

The tech giant today announced the special edition versions of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, as part of a partnership with (RED), to raise money for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS.

According to Korea’s ET News, the 2017 smartphone will feature a “water drop” design that will feature curved glass on both sides of the handset.

The much anticipated iPhone 8 will likely utilize facial recognition as hinted in a series of patents granted to Apple. See how the top and bottom of the phone is just ever so slightly curved? This group reportedly includes Mike Rockwell, who previously ran the hardware and new technologies team at Dolby, as well as Cody White, who was formerly a lead engineer for Amazon’s Lumberyard VR platform. Lastly, you could learn a little more about this story in the latest Bloomberg report here. Yes, Apple may not have been able to get the technology on the smaller screen, but the point is – one of the key USP is missing.

The new AR glasses would connect wirelessly to your iPhone, although we are not expecting to see these glasses any time soon. Last year, Apple also bought FlyBy Media, which makes AR-related camera software. Also, the introduction of a Red iPhone is going to be monumental given that all previous generations did not have this type of color to offer.

“Virtual reality sort of encloses and immerses the person into an experience that can be really cool, but probably has a lower commercial interest over time”, Cook said in comparing the two technologies. Yet, it is also clear that coming up with a pair of cool AR glasses is not easy.

According to industry analysts iPhone 8 is predicted to be one of the best selling smartphones give the different features the device will come with. The camera sensor will be a Sony module, while the infrared components will be supplied by Foxconn Sharp. Clearly, Apple got it all wrong with SE’s pricing and wasn’t compelling enough for the buyers.

The cash back offer on the iPhone SE was first made available on Friday, and will be available till March 31.
