Apple HomePod revealed as rival to Amazon Echo & Google Home

As a home assistant, HomePod is a great way to send messages, get updates on news, sports and weather, or control smart home devices by simply asking Siri to turn on the lights, close the shades or activate a scene.

The lack of a breakthrough device has periodically raised concerns that Apple has become too dependent on the iPhone and supported the theory that the company lost its knack for innovation when its co-founder Steve Jobs died of cancer in 2011. The conference ends on June 9.

But Apple is late to the game on VR.

Without an Apple speaker, consumers seeking smart home devices may opt both for competing hardware and services like Amazon Prime and Google Play Music.

Amazon and Apple declined to comment on how their differences have affected customers. The company said it will ship it to more global markets in 2018.

This is something which it has been criticised for, especially following the San Bernadino shooting.

For years, Siri was trapped inside the computers and smartphones, and finally, Apple has open the door for its own home – HomePod.

The clincher is in the device’s nervous center: an A8 chip capable of intelligently detecting the device’s location in the room and tweaking the audio quality accordingly to fit the acoustics.

Don’t get me wrong, HomePod has the potential to be the de facto speaker-come-home helper when it launches in the United Kingdom in December, but until I place it on my living room shelf, I’ll remain cautiously pessimistic.

During this week’s conference, Apple also discussed significant software upgrades for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch and debuted new iPad and Mac computer models. “We believe Siri will need meaningful improvement to avoid user frustration, though some of the music-centric commands demonstrated at the [WWDC] event show a step in the right direction”, wrote BMO Capital Markets analyst Tim Long in a note Monday night.

Apple is expected to announce plans this week to make its Siri voice assistant work with a larger variety of apps, but initial changes were expected to add just a small number of capabilities.

Google merely lists a “high excursion speaker” in its Home gadget. The phone will block most notifications to reduce temptations behind the wheel.

Apple has suggested that it could potentially use speed detection to know if a user is in a vehicle when it’s moving.

Safari, Apple’s web browser, is getting new features aimed at online annoyances.

Their battery charge should last for 10 hours, and Apple has included a new technology it called ProMotion, which will deliver higher refresh rates for the display.

The app allows Fire TV users to search for items by typing in text, with the ability to filter your search results by department, and use numerous other shopping features and functions inherent to the Amazon website, such as the ability to add items to a wish list, view customer reviews and product recommendations, choose from saved payment methods and select shipping options.
