The non-Retina, entry-level iMac gets an Intel Iris Plus 640 GPU, and the 21.5-inch with 4K offers the Radeon Pro 555 and 560 graphics cards.

That’s making it increasingly hard not to scoff at the term “Retina display” when looking at the MacBook Pro’s 2,560 x 1,600 and 2,880 x 1,800 pixel counts on the 13 and 15-inch models, respectively. This is why Apple updated its MacBook and MacBook Pro lines this week to include the new chips this week. Laptops and desktop computers are a different story for Apple, which has copped flak for not offering the industry norm annual updates for its MacBooks, iMacs and Pro machines. Fusion Drive is now standard on all 27-inch configurations and the top-end 21.5-inch iMac.

The disappointing revelation about the new MacBook Pro models is that they still come capped at 16GB RAM, which Phil Schiller explained past year that this limit was observed in order to conserve battery life. The MacBook Air only has a minor speed boost – and we think it’s worth spending a little more to get a MacBook or MacBook Pro. The entire line is moving to the Kaby Lake architecture, with higher memory capacities of 32 GB and 64 GB.
