Today’s report echos a similar report from The Apple Post earlier this month that also indicated a March release for AirPower.
The report further notes that the 2018 upgrade should also pack a new wireless “W” chip, either the W2 that now powers the Apple Watch Series 3 or a more powerful W3 chip. The first party wireless charging matt was created to charge iPhones, Apple Watches, and Airpods at the same time. Additionally, the updated AirPods will be water-resistant and able to survive splashes and rain, although it is unlikely that they will be able to handle full submersion.
AirPods’ success has undoubtably bolstered the overall success of Apple’s “other products” segment, which includes the earbuds, Beats devices, the Apple Watch, Apple TV, and other accessories.
AirPods cases now come with a Lightning connection though, so owners will have to buy a separate wireless charging case for the earbuds. Beyond 2018, Bloomberg goes on to suggest that Apple will make the AirPods water-resistant in a 2019 update.
Overall, the audio standard and brilliant pairing and charging technologies make AirPods an attractive prospect for Apple fans looking to invest in new wireless headphones for use across the entire product range. First, they’ll pack an upgraded wireless chip.
When Apple confirmed that its newer iPhones would support wireless charging, unsurprisingly the company also announced their own wireless charging pad called the AirPower. Infact, the AirPods played a vital role in taking wireless headphones mainstream. We will see if Apple will just be integrating Siri into the AirPods, or they will add more features to the earpieces.
‘They likely won’t be created to be submerged in water’. The W1 chip inside the AirPods helps it connect nearly immediately to a user’s Apple products. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch is being sold as “swim-proof”.
A new report on Thursday morning from Bloomberg states that Apple is now working on at least two different updated versions of its popular AirPods.
