Are Carmelo Anthony’s Knicks days numbered?

January 18 04:00 2017

According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, Anthony was twice told that Rosen wrote the words, not Jackson, but Anthony seemed to suggest Jackson was behind it.

According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Jackson and Anthony met Tuesday.

Anthony requested to speak with Jackson twice, according to ESPN.com’s Ramona Shelburne, after Jackson’s close friend Charley Rosen dealt blow after blow in a January 12 column suggesting the All-Star forward’s time with the Knicks had run its course. Jackson included the no-trade clause in the five-year, $124 million contract he signed Anthony to in the summer of 2014.

Anthony reaffirmed his longstanding commitment to remaining with the Knicks in a one-on-one meeting with NY president Phil Jackson on Tuesday, sources said.

Included in that contingent was Charley Rosen, the longtime sports writer who has served as a Jackson mouthpiece during his time in NY.

For what it’s worth, Anthony averaged 28.0 points and 7.5 rebounds on a slash line of.451/.391/.840 between 2012-13 and 2013-14-the two seasons during which he played power forward. He dodged reporters in Los Angeles and when he has surfaced in what would seem to be safe places he still has drawn the ire of players – on other teams and his own. In any event, Anthony won’t be going anywhere without his agreement, as his contract includes a no-trade clause. From D-Rose going AWOL on Monday while not notifying the club on his whereabouts, The Knicks made a decision to fine him but not suspend him for his actions.

Rest easy, New York Knicks fans.

“I don’t want this to be kind of going back and forth between me and the front office and management”, Anthony said. And now after their latest loss on Martin Luther King Day to the Atlanta Hawks on their home floor, the Knicks are now 18-24 and in utter chaos right now. In December, Jackson essentially called Anthony a ball stopper in an interview with CBS Sports Network.

Anthony is averaging 22.2 points per game, tied for 19th in the National Basketball Association, but his 43 percent shooting percentage would be his lowest mark since his rookie season. It’s now once again time to start speculating about Carmelo Anthony’s future in NY.

Anthony hardly ignored the likelihood that Rosen’s opinions had Jackson’s fingerprints on them. Neither team has the required cap space to absorb Anthony’s $US24 million ($US32 million) salary and would have to move a bunch of players to pull off a potential trade.

More than the defensive and chemistry problems, the Knicks issues stem from the fact that this team is still built around Anthony, a player who won’t change, who’ll never change.

A big three of Isaiah Thomas Al Horford and Carmelo Anthony would make the Celtics legit contenders to knock off the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference
