Arsenal have only themselves to blame for missing out on Champions League

Liverpool secured Champions League qualification with a comfortable 3-0 victory against already relegated Middlesbrough on Sunday, with goals from Georginio Wijnaldum, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana sealing all three points for the hosts.

Gabriel had to be carried on a stretcher after sustaining a knee injury and Wenger admitted his chance of playing in the FA Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday “doesn’t look honestly too good”.

But the 24-year-old, who signed a new five-year deal with the Reds in January, stressed his commitment to Merseyside. “I think the club has a strong foundation, a strong organisation and everything to be one-year out and come straight back in, like Chelsea did last season”.

“One thing you can not question is my love for this club”.

“Overall I believe that we played since January in a very hard environment for different reasons”, Wenger told reporters at the Emirates on Sunday. However, it turned out to be inconsequential as it would be Liverpool who became the fourth team to qualify for club football’s biggest competition.

It’s quite easy to say “get rid of him”, but who do you get?

Liverpool finished the 2016/17 Premier League season with 76 points, a great haul and one which Jürgen Klopp is more than happy with.

Arsenal are in a place that probably only a handful of us have been around long enough to know they could occupy – on the outside of the next Champions League looking in.

“For me it’s the best competition, you want to be there and Liverpool needs to be there consistently”, he said, according to Sky Sports.

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool have regained their rightful place among Europe’s elite and he is determined to keep the club there.

It is unclear whether any clubs will table offers for Coutinho this summer, but his spells of scintillating form for Liverpool are likely to attract suitors.

Antonio Conte, aiming for the double in his first season in charge, brought Terry off in the 26 minute – his shirt number – to a standing ovation.

Arsene Wenger has previously claimed Arsenal can cope without Champions League football
