Two Sooners competed on the first day of the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships. Pitt State’s Tanner Mcnutt is in 6th place in the men’s heptathlon after four events.
The stage was set in the “slow” heat when Auburn’s Akeem Bloomfield ran a world-leading 44.86, just one-hundredth of a second off Fred Kerley’s facility record set past year.
Kaylee Jones, the team’s anchor, raced past Emory on the final lap to claim the title. For his stellar effort, he will be recognized as a first-team All-American for the second straight year. The Jones sisters have been part of all four. The No. 17 men’s team collected one gold and scored 12 points.
Sydney McLaughlin won silver in the 400-meters with a time of 50.36. The champion, Wadeline Jonathas of UMass Boston, set a Division III record, crossing the line in:54.28. Whitewater recorded the seventh-fastest time (3:54.40).
“I couldn’t be prouder of the way we have finished up this season, honestly, especially with the first time being in charge of everything, it’s fun for me to be a part of that”, Ingebritsen said.
Which explains why Jones raised her fourth-place trophy overhead and shouted in joy to her parents and family in the stands.
PITTSBURG, Kan. (March 9, 2018) – Stonehill College’s men’s 4000-meter distance medley relay team posted a fifth-place finish and broke the school record to highlight day one of the 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Robert E. Plaster Center, hosted by Pittsburg State University.
On the men’s side, Devroe and Daniel Nixon finished second and third, respectively, in the 800 to earn second-team selections, the first of their Bulldog careers. It was the first time Knight ran the 5,000 indoors at NCAAs.
The Lexington native – and graduate of Bryan Station High School – enters the national championship meet ranked No. 13 in the country.
Cutliff, who is competing in the indoor championships for the second consecutive year and earned second-team All-America honors at the 2017 NCAA Championships, is coming off her second consecutive Conference USA indoor high jump title, finding the top of the podium after a jump of 1.84m. He recovered well to finish strong and was able to place third in a fast race as seven of the eight competitors ran under 7.85 seconds.
Bennett unleashed a winning throw of 59 feet, 1¼ inches on her second-to-last attempt to beat out runner-up Kayla Pabst of UW-Stout (58-10). Her best throw in the finals was 52-10¼.
Bryan Burns and Junior Joseph picked up All-American honors in the weight throw as Burns was third and Joseph was fourth.
