The entire complex has hundreds of complaints and violations.

Although the child only fell a few feet and landed on top of the elevator auto, her mother fell in after her and landed on top of the stroller. “The elevator should not open unless the elevator is at that floor”.

The child, Areej Ali, was taken to Coney Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

“The elevators jump”, said Igor Nazarov, 59, who lives in a building next door.

Her mother fell in after her and landed on top of the carriage, sources told The New York Post.

The building located at 3415 Neptune Avenue in the Sea Gate section was built in 1974 and stands 24 stories tall and contains 335 apartments.

Ali assumed that the elevator had arrived when the doors opened. Residents say despite numerous complaints, nothing has been done to make the elevators safe, much less reliable.

The stroller, with the baby girl still inside, fell to the building’s 17th floor, police said.

A New York City woman was simply taking her six-week-old daughter on a walk in her stroller when she faced every mother’s worst nightmare. “I have to look out for him”.

A SIX-WEEK-OLD baby has died and her mum has been injured after the pair walked into a lift when the doors opened – only to find the lift wasn’t there. “And it’s been going on like this for 20 years”.

“It was a little shaky. My wife called me and said, ‘ Our neighbor fell down the elevator.’ Nobody trusts those elevators…everybody is scared to take that elevator…my mom nearly died in that elevator years ago”. Residents had reported that the elevators in the apartment building have had a long history of malfunctioning and breaking down. Another resident who was not identified by NY1 recalled he got stuck in an elevator during the first month of his move into the complex.
