Baby dies when stroller plunges down NYC elevator shaft

The child, Areej Ali, was taken to Coney Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Residents had reported that the elevators in the apartment building have had a long history of malfunctioning and breaking down. Another resident who was not identified by NY1 recalled he got stuck in an elevator during the first month of his move into the complex.
