Bannon in peril? Trump’s criticism worries his populist base

A White House spokesperson told the Free Beacon the NSC was running smoothly: “The NSC is running beautifully under the leadership of Gen. McMaster who has installed an exceptional team to execute on behalf of the president”. And while Bannon was initially lionized for architecting Trump’s populist vision, inaugural address, and executive orders, Trump was reportedly irritated by the media attention lavished on his subordinate, including a Time magazine cover depicting Bannon as “The Great Manipulator“. That would seem to bode poorly for his actual strategist, Steve Bannon.

After meeting in 2011, Breitbart News, which Bannon led, offered extensive coverage of Trump and interviews with him before he formally announced his run for the presidency in June 2015.

And Trump now appears to have begun publicly distancing himself from Bannon.

And last week, Mr Trump ordered his son-in-law Jared Kushner, another top White House aide, and Mr Bannon to meet and patch up their differences. “Rebekah Mercer, who directs the family’s political activities, is unnerved and anxious about losing her best link to a president her family takes credit for helping get elected but believes Bannon will be able to maintain his influence, people close to the family said”.

He told the New York Post that he had issued an ultimatum: “Steve is a good guy, but I told them to straighten it out or I will”.

“So what happens is I said we’ve just launched 59 missiles heading to Iraq and I wanted you to know this”.

Trump would be wise, they say, to keep Bannon around.

That is brutal. Bannon, the former head of the right-wing website Breitbart with a very particular world view, was brought on in August of 2016 and named the campaign’s “CEO”.

As President Trump’s administration nears the first 100-days mark, there are many changes underway and the firing of Bannon would be a monumental move.

Trump’s grass roots base didn’t vote for Bannon for president, they voted for Trump. Kushner is said to be trying to push Trump towards more mainstream policies, rather than the ones which saw him win last November’s election. This is a guy who was charged with domestic abuse, which Bannon denied, and one of the charges against Bannon included “dissuading a witness” from reporting a crime to the relevant authorities, which Bannon also denied. Many wondered why Bannon was given the position in the first place as he had been in publishing and the National Security Council is a position for high-ranking military members.

Bannon’s fingerprints have been all over the Trump administrations biggest failures and mistakes.

Further evidence that Bannon’s “America First” crowd was waning in influence emerged Wednesday when Trump reversed his position on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. “I don’t have people making decisions”. “As the chief architect of the Muslim Ban and a persistent advocate of President Trump’s border wall, his corrosive fingerprints can be found on the most extreme tenets of this Administrations un-American agenda”.

Some media critics gave Spicer a pass, blaming his stumble into such a weird rabbit warren not on anti-Semitism so much as the failure by Donald Trump to enunciate a coherent Middle East policy that Spicer might then be able to sell from the lectern. We strongly urge you to remove Steve Bannon from the White House immediately.
