Bears LB McPhee has choice words for Manning, Giants

Scott Thompson of Scout.com’s The Giants Beat provides an in-depth preview of the Chicago Bears’ Week 11 opponent, the New York Giants.

Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun-Times summed it up perfectly in his recent mailbag. Poor play and injuries took a toll and we see a once-proud franchise become a laughingstock. “That’s the goal, obviously”.

There are no real stats that will dress this uneven performance up, it was just a game of attrition in which the Giants luckily escaped with their hides. With the team Accorsi assisted facing the franchise he helped win Super Bowls, he seemed like a natural person to offer perspective on Sunday’s matchup. With him under center, the Giants hold a unique and distinct advantage over nearly every other team they face.

Bears QB Jay Cutler has shown that he doesn’t like to be disrupted in the pocket and that he is susceptible to making the errant throw that often winds up in the hands of the opposing team.

The Chiefs have posted nine straight wins at Arrowhead Stadium, but have been a betting disappointment, failing to cover in consecutive games since last December while going 1-7 ATS in eight games at home. When Newhouse swings outside to the jumbo tight end, Adam Gettis, who was listed as questionable on the Giants’ injury report this week, will step in at left guard for Newhouse. Cutler’s two picks from last week came off of trying to make a play that couldn’t have been made.

NY has allowed 13 sacks this season. The Giants allowed a lousy Bears offense to gain 214 yards in the first half, but then this defense went into complete lockdown mode after intermission despite being rushed onto the field again and again. DE Olivier Vernon notched a sack in his third-straight game and now has four on the season… Chicago has managed only 15.7 points per game, which is second-to-last in the NFL. They’re protecting a two-point lead in the final seconds as the Giants drive into field-goal range.

Rookie running back Jordan Howard dinged up an ankle in Week 10 but returned to practice this week. Look for him to be aggressive with the Bears having limited options on the offensive side of the ball. Unnamed sources questioning Cutler’s support or preparation says more about his teammates than about the most polarizing athlete in Chicago, who’s used to living under constant scrutiny.

The Bears lost star receiver Alshon Jeffery to a suspension. What Manning lacks in perceived athleticism, he more than makes up for with his knowledge of schemes, formations, and defensive tendencies.

Meredith, 23, joined the team in 2015 as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois State. “If we win the last game, we finish 8-8 and are in the playoffs”.

“Very disappointing, ” Fox said of the defeat. “He has a good feel for pass coverage as far as getting on a (defensive back’s) feet, the kind of things it takes to get open”. Another headline in this game is that the Giants will get a front row view of rookie linebacker Leonard Floyd.

Before he was injured, Miller was the Bears’ top receiver in the game, hauling in three catches for 61 yards and a touchdown against the Giants.

When the coaches relay the play call to Manning, the quarterback gets to the line and scans the defense. He has thrown two interceptions in three of his last four games. The first-year running back has quickly established himself as the offensive building block moving forward, and he’ll be Chicago’s best defense against Beckham; if he gets rolling, the Bears can run the clock and keep the ball away from the Giants’ offense. Beckham managed just 97 receiving yards against Cincinnati, and it was a sign of maturity that he did not grow frustrated when he could not find much running room.
