Bears release quarterback Jay Cutler

With new Chicago Bears quarterback Mike Glennon set to make $15 million over the next three season, life is good for National Football League quarterbacks who are able to find a starting gig. “I was always trying to find out what I needed to do to get that job”.

The quarterback’s professional and private life won’t be under the same scrutiny as Jay Cutler’s – that would be impossible after eight years of controversy – but he will receive greater exposure than anything he saw in Tampa. I’m just excited that it all worked out the way that I hoped and envisioned. It’s not a bad deal for the Bears if Glennon proves to be capable and helps them compete while they develop a younger quarterback. If that were the case, the Jacksonville Jaguars would have won the Super Bowl this past season. So naturally, this causes people to believe that the Bears won’t draft a quarterback in the first round now.

That leaves Cleveland, Houston, San Francisco, Buffalo and the Jets.

Glennon felt Chicago’s enthusiasm about the Cubs’ World Series win way down in Tampa. The Bears would be much better off picking a wideout on the second or third day of the draft.

“Thin-skinned veteran starting quarterback who doesn’t belong anywhere near the bright lights of Broadway and throws too many interceptions and has a history of brooding leadership, please call our general manager, Mike Maccagnan, ASAP”.

And the Bears with him.

One player who was franchise-tagged got a long-term deal as LB Chandler Jones re-upped with Arizona for five years and $82.5 million, with $53 million guaranteed. Hoyer will have a chance to be the Niners’ starter.

Cutler never had a full compliment of players to truly live up to the lofty expectations heaped upon him when the Bears traded for him. He tossed 21 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions with a career-best QB rating of 92.3. Offensive coordinator Rick Dennison was Cutler’s OC during the first three years of his career in Denver.

At the end of the 2016, Cutler had a season-ending surgery on his shoulder, and was placed on injured reserve.

To completely blame Fox and Pace for Cutler’s steady Bears decline would be unfair.

Wouldn’t a move such as this make the MetLife boobirds, should they decide to show up in November and December, euphoric Woody Johnson didn’t raise ticket prices?

Also, it is becoming more likely that Chicago will have their top choice of quarterback available in the first round. None was selected in Chicago’s previous two drafts. “And hopefully we can have that conversation in seven years, where I can still play and maybe we can keep this thing going”.

The Bears now hold the third overall selection in this year’s draft after going 3-13 this past season, and could potentially look to select one of the top three quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.
