For what it is worth to the Giants, Green Bay’s quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, wore a disgusted look while walking to the sideline nearly as frequently as his counterpart on Sunday, Eli Manning. Manning has thrown five touchdowns and four interceptions this season.
The New York Giants have a history of putting Green Bay Packers’ seasons to an abrupt and unexpected end.
“They stopped the Giants on third downs.meanwhile, Green Bay converted a good portion of theirs”, said Larrivee.
With the Packers starting two cornerbacks out the game with injuries, the Giants should have had a big night throwing the ball, and that’s where the blame falls on Eli Manning. The Giants didn’t show any kind of life until late in the game, when Odell Beckham Jr. made another one of those highlight-reel grabs that demonstrate exactly why everyone in blue is willing to put up with his tantrums and kicking-net fights.
New York’s running game remains very bad. By that point they had outpaced the Giants in total yardage, 221-78, but somehow things devolved when New York’s top two cornerbacks, Eli Apple and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, exited the game with groin injuries. The Packers wound up settling for Mason Crosby’s 33-yard field goal and a 20-9 lead. The Packers blanketed the Giants all night, but he didn’t let that negatively impact him on the field in the way of dropped balls or penalties. From three receivers to two tight ends to multiple players in the backfield, the result was a 16-play drive that saw every skill position player except Jared Abbrederis take at least a snap and ended with a spectacular diving touchdown catch by Jordy Nelson.
Beckham was targeted 12 times and caught five passes for 56 yards. He didn’t have a stellar night (23 of 45 for 259 yards, 2 touchdown passes and 2 picks) by any means. DT Damon Harrison was in the locker room for an unknown injury for much of the Packers’ game-opening touchdown drive. While the run game has been marginally better than expected, the Giants still rank 26th in rush yards and 21st in yards per attempt. The unit also did not allow a sack. And the Giants’ defense nabbed its first takeaways of the season: two interceptions by Janoris Jenkins in the first half.
Another name to watch out for is Sam Shields, who has missed three games with a concussion, and that’s with a bye week. Quinten Rollins and LaDarius Gunter stepped up in a big way to slow down the Giants passing attack.
After cutting loose Josh Sitton prior to the season, there were questions surrounding the Packers’ offensive line. A screen pass to Paul Perkins brought the Giants to the 11, but Manning was sacked from behind as Ereck Flowers whiffed while trying to block Nick Perry and the Giants never came close to the end zone. He did not let the early interceptions phase him and made a handsome throw to Adams for the second touchdown.
Cobb left the game on that final play after taking a hit to the head. The Redskins won their third straight, and the Cowboys, who finished their impressive showing after the Giants arrived at Lambeau Field, won their fourth consecutive game.
“(On) defense, I thought our young guys, the secondary, I thought they did a heck of a job. And then you look at the guys who can rush the passer, it’s hard, so we really like what we have this year. “[On Sunday] I told him, ‘Good hit.’ Now we can be friends”.
