Bill O’Reilly goes on vacation amid sponsor backlash

April 12 10:07 2017

President Trump has been bombarded with a minor backlash following his statements about the political commentator Bill O’Reilly who is facing numerous sexual harassment related cases, as reported.

The attorney representing one of the women who have accused embattled Fox News host Bill O’Reilly of sexual harassment is now calling for a state investigation into the network. One source close to the matter said their understanding is that Rupert, the Executive Chairman, would like to keep O’Reilly on air, while his son James, the Chief Executive Officer, is opposed to that idea. And by “teachable moment”, of course, I mean that Oliver’s team tried to buy airtime during The O’Reilly Factor in the hopes of catching the president’s attention while he was presumably watching the program.

The firebrand conservative commentator’s vacation announcement came as about 60 companies said they would not advertise on his show after multiple women claimed O’Reilly sexually harassed them. “Put it to good use”, he told his viewers on Tuesday’s episode of “The O’Reilly Factor”, Variety reported.

Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly is taking a break from his show amid allegations of sexual harassment at workplace that had led several companies to pull their advertisements from “The O’Reilly Factor” show. That’s up 12 percent from the 3.31 million viewers he averaged the week before.

A story in The New York Times on April 1 said O’Reilly and/or Fox paid out $13 million in settling sexual harassment claims.

The company recently upped O’Reilly’s contract and, NYT, in its report, said some of the payments were made since Ailes’ exit.

It has left his show with a more unusual array of commercials than you’d typically see for a popular program – like Monday night’s ad for a device that clears ear wax.

Yes, Fox News did ultimately investigate these allegations, but it appears not until way after the fact.

Presumably, said Deadline, while O’Reilly is vacationing, President Donald Trump will continue to stand by his longtime friend. Trump also criticized Obama for not hitting Assad with missiles “a long time before I did it”, saying if he had, “I think Syria would be a lot better off than it has been”.
