‘Birth of a Nation’ launches voter registration initiative

According to NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org the day was set aside because six million Americans didn’t vote in 2008 because they missed a registration deadline in their state.

In honor of Tuesday’s National Voter Registration day in the USA, distribution company Fox Searchlight has launched an in-theater registration initiative tied to Nate Parker’s slavery drama The Birth of a Nation.

In Baltimore, two registration events are being held. Or, register anytime online.

National Voter Registration Day began in 2012, and is led by a coalition of non-partisan voter registration groups like Rock the Vote and Fair Elections Legal Network. Last day to receive ballot by mail, 7 p.m.

After doing so, Twitter says you can let everyone know you have registered by using #Iregistered. The last day for in- person absentee voting is November 5.

A common misconception among students is if you’re registered at home, you can vote at a polling place where your college is.

Wichita County Clerk, Lori Bohannon, said registration numbers are up. After clicking the reminder, people were linked to Vote.USA.gov, a US government website for voter registration information.

The single day of coordinated field efforts is aimed at getting the thousands of unregistered voters eligible to have their opinions heard come election time in November. A frequent lecturer and speaker on voting rights issues, Schneider has worked on election and voting rights issues for more than a decade.

Registration by mail applications must be postmarked at least 30 days prior to that particular election to be eligible.
