Bomb threats made as Canberra schools evacuated

Pupils have returned to two schools in Edinburgh which were evacuated after threatening phone calls.

Earlier, Glasgow High School and Hillhead High School were placed on alert around 8.30am.

The Newport Police Department worked closely with School Department to ensure the safety of all students and faculty for the upcoming school day.

The Department of Education said it could not confirm the number of Queensland schools involved.

School students at Mosman High School have been evacuated to the lane way behind the school.

It follows a spate of similar incidents at schools in the Sydney region in the past week.

Today’s operations come after seven New South Wales schools went into lockdown for several hours following threats made on Friday morning.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Two schools in Edinburgh have been evacuated following threats being made to three schools via telephone”.

A statement from Bounty Boulevard State School’s website said there had “been a hoax phone call this morning which has resulted in us having to evacuate the school to the oval”. ‘Schools are operating as normal and officers are continuing inquiries. Making threats is a serious criminal offense, police stressed, vowing to bring those responsible to justice.

NSW Police confirmed yesterday that a threat was received in relation to nine schools across the city, with all of them following emergency protocol.
