Bumps ahead for ‘Obamacare’ repeal as Americans air worries

No House Democrats backed the legislation – and their Senate colleagues have also vowed that the healthcare bill is “dead on arrival”.

Other lawmakers may try to ensure that more Americans keep health insurance than under the House plan. The American Health Care Act, a piece of legislation that received an abysmal rating from the Congressional Budget Office and has yet to receive any appraisal from the agency in its latest form, will now be sent to the Senate for further approval.

With its passage in the House on Thursday, supporters claimed the bill would lower premiums and give struggling patients more choice.

You can do this without the government taking it over, without all these new taxes and new spending programs. Using it could mean limiting the scope of the bill – but it could also mean about $1 trillion in taxes will be repealed. And at that point, the chamber’s parliamentarian might well have some problems with the way the bill has been structured in an effort to slip it through the upper chamber with only a simple majority vote. The landmark legislation, which squeaked by in the House after several failed efforts, now moves on to the Senate, where it faces daunting challenges because of the same ideological splits between conservative and moderate Republicans that almost killed it in the House.
