Cabinet recommends Prez rule in Arunachal Pradesh

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who is a Member of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday said BJP has no intention to form the next government in Arunachal Pradesh and it was upto the MLAs to decide the future course of action.

The Union Cabinet on Sunday recommended President’s Rule in Arunachal Pradesh after an unscheduled meeting in the morning chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

President’s rule will be imposed and the Assembly kept in suspended animation, official sources told The Hindu.

On January 18, the Supreme Court constitution bench said it would examine whether Governor J.P. Rajkhowa’s decision of advancing the assembly session to December 16 to take up the resolution for the removal of Speaker Nabam Rebia was valid or not. It was boycotted by CM Nabam Tuki and his ministerial colleagues. “In future also we will support anti-Congress formation as we have only 11 MLAs in the house of 60”. Dorjee said they have already projected former Minister and veteran state Congress leader Kalikho Pul as the next Chief Minister of the state. Don’t know why the cabinet has recommended President’s rule instead of waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision.

“We do not have any role in the recommendation of President’s Rule because it is a constitutional process”, the minister said. This bypassing the matter, which is being heard by the Supreme Court…. “It is a given that when a government’s majority is in doubt, within 24 hours or so, a floor test is called”, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said in New Delhi. Expressing shock at the Centre’s recommendation, Mr. Tuki said there was no constitutional crises in the State and whatever crisis was there it was the Governor’s “creation”.

“But they still want to destabilize a border state, whose border is with China, and they want to destabilise such a state”.

Congress leader KapilSibal said the party will move court and alleged that the step shows that Modi is “fountain head” of political intolerance. The Central Government has not intervened prematurely, it has intervened only after the lapse of six months period.

Rubbishing Congress’ allegation against the BJP for masterminding the campaign to oust the Tuki-led government, Tagak said, “BJP has nothing to do with their internal squabbling but they are accusing the BJP after they failed to resolve among themselves”.

Congress, he asserted, will protest against the decision if President Pranab Mukherjee gives assent to the recommendation of the Union Cabinet.
