Activision announced the release date of the first Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 DLC pack Monday.
Here at Kotaku, we’ve fallen in love with the zombie stuff, so we’re most excited about that. While it did see a 20% jump in sales – becoming an EA’s biggest selling game of the week, beating Federation Internationale de Football Association 16 – it wasn’t enough to dislodge Call of Duty: Black Ops III from the top spot.
The company initially said that delivery will take place during the middle of January so gamers will have to wait a little extra in order to get access to the four new multiplayer maps contained in DLC, called Rise, Splash, Gauntlet and Skyjacked, which offers an updated take on the classic hijacked from Black Ops 2. Each of the three primary lanes has a unique environment as players battle through a sprawling jungle, sub-zero artic zone and rainy urban cityscape.
Software developer Treyarch returns and will be releasing the latest hotfixes for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3“, with the newest already going live yesterday.
Splash: Set in an abandoned water theme park, this vibrant and playful map delivers an imaginative environment, complete with waterslides, a wrecked pirate ship, and a lazy river ride that winds through a fantastical forgotten city.
Rise: Set outside of snowy Zurich, Rise centers around a construction site with numerous cover spots and wall-running areas. According to the reports coming out from Black Ops III players on Reddit, Treyarch has brought back Advanced Warfare like skill based match making.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III deploys players into a future where a bio – technology has enabled a new breed of Black Ops soldier.
Fallout 4 was tied to Xbox One, meanwhile, while Call of Duty has a strong Xbox heritage (DLC launched first on the platform up until this year, which may have influenced COD fans into an Xbox One purchase in previous years).
I wish more games would do free weekends like this. It is nearly impossible for high-level players to find a game and all the players I get matched with having above 1.5 K/D’s. You can check out the official description for each of the maps from Treyarch and Activision below.
