Camille Cosby Loses Fight To Delay Deposition, Must Testify Under Oath

(CNN) – Bill Cosby’s wife, Camille, acted like “she really didn’t want to be there” Monday when she was deposed for more than two hours in a defamation lawsuit against the comedian, a lawyer for the plaintiffs said.

Over the weekend, Bill Cosby’s attorneys filed a motion to stop the deposition, and the plaintiffs’ lawyers filed arguments against that motion.

Despite them attempting to quash the deposition, a judge ruled on Friday that it must still go ahead.

Bill Cosby’s legal team filed a series of motions to prevent his wife, Camille, from being called to testify, but late Sunday the federal court in Springfield, Mass., rejected the last, emergency appeal”.

Cammarata wouldn’t characterize his questions to Camille Cosby, but he said she was in a unique position to know a lot about Bill Cosby because she has been married to him for 52 years and has been his business manager. It goes on to claim that her testimony would create “an unnecessary media circus and personal security threat that serves no goal other than to harass and embarrass her”. The deposition was originally expected to take place on January 6, but was pushed back until now. They have five children, one of them deceased.

Camille Cosby, who manages her husband’s business, was deposed at a hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Fifty women have come forward with claims of sexual misconduct by Bill Cosby.

Of the dozens of allegations of sexual assault that have now been made against Cosby, only one has so far resulted in criminal charges. Her testimony was crucial, he argued, to learn about the comedian’s “relationship to her and his relationship to other women”.

But an attorney for the seven women said that Camille Cosby could provide valuable, unprotected information in formal questioning. But she will nevertheless be under oath, and as NBC News explains, “Anything she says theoretically could be used in a criminal prosecution – and Cosby is under indictment in Pennsylvania”. Cosby has pleaded not guilty.

The seven women who have filed the suit against Cosby- Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Louisa Moritz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis and Angela Leslie – have accused him of defaming them in the press by calling them all liars.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 8.
