The Cavs announced the deal in a press release on Saturday.
Korver, an All-Star in 2015, has been one of the best three-point shooters in the league for years now.
Williams has been on Cleveland’s roster all season even though he hasn’t dressed for a single game. I don’t know if it’s the mask but Korver was hotter than a hot pocket coming out of the microwave. “He always pulls out something magical”.
Toronto has always been linked to Millsap, the 31-year-old who is expected to opt out of a $20-million contract at the end of this season.
Vivlamore brings word that the 2019 first round pick initially reported to be headed Atlanta’s way will be protected only through the first ten picks of the draft.
Sources: Cavs agree to deal for sharpshooter Kyle Korver. Losing the player with the 14th most three-point field goals made in National Basketball Association history is, obviously, a big loss. “We look forward to welcoming Kyle, his wife, Juliet and their three children to Northeast Ohio and are certain our fans will embrace them with open arms”.
The Cavs were already a superb offensive team, with the ability to spread the floor with elite shooters at every position and James, one of the best passers in the history of the sport, to hit them all with pinpoint feeds.
Korver, 35, struggled at times earlier this season with his shot and was moved from the starting lineup to the bench.
Cleveland is seeking another perimeter shooter with guard J.R. Smith expected to be sidelined until the end of the regular season after undergoing surgery to fix a broken thumb. Korver played for the Chicago Bulls from 2010 to 2011, before joining the Hawks in 2012. Those things can change, though. In the final season of his contract with the Cavs, Williams has a $2,194,500 salary for 2016-17. That’s all the Cavs need him to be here. Don’t be surprised if he pops up in the conference finals as a surprise role player for a contender. The reason it happened is that the league has a rule where teams can not trade first-round picks in consecutive years. He was, in essence, retiring, except he never filed his paperwork with the National Basketball Association, so he held onto his salary. That’s the type of shooter he is, and no doubt the best shooter James has played with since Allen. We saw in their Christmas Day matchup that the Cavaliers only have a few players they trust against Golden State (they only played eight guys in that game) and they’ve just picked up another one whom they can trust in short stints to make shots and execute a defensive scheme.
The centerpiece for this deal is, was, and ever shall be Korver. Though they may need insurance in case of injury, the team’s ball-handling needs are for the most part met by Irving and James. I think it’s a good thing for basketball, I think it’ll be entertaining, and I think it makes the Cavs more risky when it comes to the Finals match up with Golden State.
