The Rangers stopper denied Griffiths a second for Celtic when the forward raced clear on goal and Brendan Rodgers’ side held on to book a meeting with Aberdeen in the final on 28 November (AEDT).

“This is the first chance we have to win a trophy and that is a priority in itself because it’s the first one”. We are very fortunate in Scotland that the vast majority of football fans are well behaved, but you do have often a small minority of people who can tarnish an event.

“I think we’ve made steady progress since that game, results have been improved, clean sheets, defending well”. We had chances, we just didn’t get that goal we needed but in the end Moussa came and back-heeled it.

Rodgers admitted some relief at getting the victor in the nervy closing stages.

“I could never have imagined things going as smoothly when I decided to make the move up here”, he said, as reported by Sky Sports. We had eight shots on target on Sunday, whereas we had nine in the 5-1 game’.

“We played really well on the day and they were probably disappointed with themselves”.

“We will look to take that mentality into Sunday’s game”.

“When we are at 100 per cent it is hard for teams to beat us and that is the reality of the game”.

Rangers great Ally McCoist insists the club must stick with Mark Warburton through their tough first season back in the Scottish Premiership. Game by game, I’m getting my form back and building my confidence. It was as simple as that. I wanted to play under a manager who has belief in me. This has all been mitigated by some incredible bargains, true, but if we need to go to the next level, surely we need to be able to trust our manager to make big signings.

“It was tight right to the death there until the 87th minute”. That to me is always the sign of a great player. There was no lack of desire, no lack of work ethic or focus.

“I have seen a little bit of them”, said the Northern Irishman.

CELTIC: Gordon, Lustig, Simunovic, Sviatchenko, Tierney, Bitton (Armstrong, 63 mins), Brown, Forrest (Gamboa, 90 mins), Rogic (Griffiths, 70 mins), Sinclair, Dembele. You might come from a team where you have 40% possession to Rangers where you have 70% possession.
