ABOUT TCU (5-5, 3-4 Big 12): The Horned Frogs almost fell victim to Kansas on October 8 but squeezed out a 24-23 win despite three interceptions from quarterback Kenny Hill. TCU also dialed up steady pressure on Buechele with four sacks.
Texas players, meanwhile, rallied behind Strong on Monday and expressed hope that a win over TCU would secure Strong’s job for another year.
Junior running back and Heisman candidate D’Onta Foreman stormed for 165 yards in his 13th straight 100-yard rushing game, the longest streak in school history and the longest active streak in the FBS. “Tonight was about the seniors and what bothers me is they didn’t have the chance to go to a bowl game”. The Longhorns stood firm, forcing three incomplete passes and limiting TCU to a field goal on the possession. “We got bowl eligible and not anything really good has happened for these guys this year”. Hill was once again ineffective through the air, but he redeemed himself in exploiting Texas’ issues against the run. The two other Texas second half drives ended in a turnover on downs and an interception. The Frogs came out firing on their first drive, but they were unable to reach the end zone and settled for a 28-yard Brandon Hatfield field goal to extend their lead to 10-6. “We drove down the field, we were in the red zone a couple times”.
Before a three-game losing streak to end the season, that might have been enough.
Touchdown runs of 5 yards by Tavares Johnson and 70 yards by Darius Anderson within a span of 1 minute, 46 seconds early in the fourth quarter cemented the win for TCU.
While Texas is expected to at least check on the status of high-profile established coaches like Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, one of the sources indicated that Houston’s Tom Herman is both the “logical choice and leading choice” on the Texas wish list.

Offensively, Patterson hinted that backup quarterback Foster Sawyer could see some action if the offensive continues to struggle.
The players on Texas’ offense, though, failed to take advantage. The Texas administration promised to evaluate Strong after the season.
When Strong was asked how he would want fans to remember his legacy at Texas, the coach said he hopes to not be judged exclusively on wins and losses. The under is also 6-0 in Texas’ last six games overall and is 24-9 in its last 33 conference games. Strong characterized his workhorse after the game as the ultimate team player.
“It’s tough to focus when so much is thrown at them”. “Just look at the positives, look at where we are with this football team, how young we are”. “I told them, ‘I never wanted you to make it about me”.
But that’s always been the theme of Strong’s stint as Texas head coach. “The foundation has been laid here”, said Strong.
Strong’s tenure at UT has been plagued by issues of lack of support from Texas brass nearly from the time he arrived in Austin.
